always the bridesmaid, never the bride

Two people who graduated undergrad with me just got married, to one another, this weekend. No, they didn't make it into the NYT Weddings section, but we did uncover an online wedding announcement, complete with photo in wedding gown. (The rumor is that the wedding was lovely, lavish, Southern.)

A girl I lived with senior year is now engaged, as of this past weekend.

Three of my close friends in Boston have mentioned to me that they expect to be engaged within a year.

Why is it so hard to be happy for everyone else?
